TEACHER INDUCTION 2001/2002

The purpose of this circular is to update and advise divisions and associations about the induction arrangements set out in DfES Circular 582/2001 on ‘The Induction Period for Newly Qualified Teachers’, which replaces the previous DfEE Circulars 90/2000 and 5/99.

Attached to this Circular is: a guidance note on induction to division and local association secretaries in England, which replaces that attached to NUT Circular 141/00(E/EO);

a copy of DfES Circular 582/2001, ‘The Induction Period for Newly Qualified Teachers’, for divisions in England.

Yours sincerely,

DOUG McAVOY

LTA advice

The induction provided by Lambeth is of a good quality and we recommend it. There are induction afternoons, but NQTs are entitled to 10% non-contact over and above what is norm for their school to assist induction.

Are you getting that entitlement?

NQTs are also entitled to be mentored by a senior member of staff. We know of at least one school where this is not happening.

There are guidelines found on other web pages her, but also survey findings which are very informative. Should you want a copy of that or any other material, please contact us.
