Our union is committed to peaceful solutions in every context. The only solution to this bloody war is the evacuation of US and British troops and for the Iraqis to determine their own future.
In April 2003 we said:
It's not over till the last GI leaves

The situation in Iraq continues to be unstable and very problematic for the US occupation meaning that the situation there should not be considered to be settled and over. The anti war movement must now focus on actions to draw attention to human rights abuses and the general situation of colonialism in Iraq. Extra US troops have been moved into towns surrounding Baghdad, where people are continuing to resist the occupation.

Even the Intelligence and Security Committee hand picked by Blair to oversee the intelligence agencies itself criticised Blair's `dodgy dossier' including that material was added without being agreed by MI6.

Fighting the new colonialism

This situation provides an opportunity to re gain arguments against the war and to put pressure on the government on the situation in Iraq, and any possible support for future US wars.

There is definitely further scope to a. exploit tensions around the failure to find WMD the putative reason for war and b. draw attention to the situation inside Iraq, colonialist abuses, human rights attacks, facts emerging of deaths and weapons used etc.

There are many activities planned in the period ahead both by Stop the War and CND. We hopefully will be able to publicise these widely.

Reading between the lines: there were no WMDs - a US financed group of puppets were feeding Bush with lie all along. (OK so we're not telling you anthing you didn't know already)

From the Independent,19 May 2004

Washington said yesterday that it was to cease funding the Iraqi politician Ahmed Chalabi, the former exile whose "intelligence reports" and claims about Americans' likely reception among his countrymen helped push the Bush administration to war.

Officials said the Pentagon would stop paying Mr Chalabi's group, the Iraqi National Congress (INC), $340,000 (£192,000) a month at the end of June, when the US is due to return sovereignty of Iraq.

Entifadh Qanbar, an INC spokesman in Washington, said: "After 30 June, we expect all funding by US agencies to be ceased because the Iraqi government will be sovereign."

The decision underlines Washington's growing frustration and disillusionment with the INC, which for several years had the ear of the administration as it supported the ousting of Saddam Hussein. The US either through the CIA or the State Department has provided tens of millions of dollars to the INC in exchange for information about Iraq and defectors from the regime.

Now they say: It's like Vietnam!

Source: http://lunaville.org/warcasualties/Summary.aspx. This was tabulated by us on 4.5.04. This was after 412 days of conflict. The figures will have worsened, we guess as the mess gets worse.

Each consecutive month since has become increasingly worse, reaching the stage now of reported mutinies of soldiers fearful of the outcome of the manouvres they are sent on.

Poverty is a weapon of mass destruction

Over the past decade, despite all the propaganda about globalisation and the opening up of markets, the reality is that millions of people world-wide have seen their living standards fall.

The underlying reason for war is the failure of the US economy and its need to plunder from the rest of the world using IMF bullying tactics that ensure that the wealth of poor nations arrives on the shores of USA.

A useful documentation (it is of some length) is attached here in PDF format. Please use advisedly.

The doctrine of regime change is another way of phrasing 'new imperialism'. In the 70's and 80's the USA worked via proxy. For example, the Contras in Nicaragua, Pinochet in Chile and so on. Now there's no need to use a middle man - USA Direct is the new company. Bush's doctrine challenges the sovereignty of any nation - if USA doesn't like the regime, it will oust it. If it does it will keep it in place, however despicable the regime.
