- Since 2003, the school's '5 A* - Cs' have increased
from 26% to 58% - a staggering 32% increase.
- Throughout various managements, it has recruited
black teachers who are well represented throughout, including senior
management.
- Stockwell Park was one of very few secondary
schools who remained loyal to Lambeth during the 1990s when 'opting out' was
commonplace among secondary schools. We would contend that it is the support of
the local authority that is key in ensuring progress. This is why schools such
as Stockwell Park have progressed well beyond what academies can dream of.
- Stockwell Park's Free School meals list includes
85% of its intake. This is well above the Lambeth, National and indeed Academy
average (Lambeth Academy was less than 9% in 2004 when it opened).
- Stockwell Park's inspection record has usually been
good, having passed Ofsted on the first occasion in 1996. Following some
difficulties in the late 90s, it did restructure, despite union concerns, but
the unions did protect staff from the sort of shabby deal Lilian Baylis staff
suffered at the time.
- Even before the legislation prohibiting
discrimination on religious grounds, Stockwell Park had a prayer room, probably
the first community school in Lambeth to do so.
- Also, in terms of reasonable adjustments in
relation to the Disability Discrimination Act, Stockwell Park has good access
in all but one of the buildings and on-site facilities are excellent.
- As part of the 'Building Schools for the Future'
programme, Stockwell Park is in the first wave and we expect some rapid
progress. We no doubt will have some concerns, but we are definitely supportive
of their plans.
