Dear Colleague
TEACHER WORKLOAD REVIEW
PricewaterhouseCoopers Study
You have already been advised of the
study into teacher workload being undertaken by PricewaterhouseCoopers, at the
request of the Government and with the agreement of the teachers
organisations.
Attached is an up-to-date list of 55
schools that have agreed to take part in the study.
The Union has written to the NUT
school representatives in the schools to be visited by PWC researchers and a
copy of that letter is attached for your information. You will note that the
letter stresses the importance of the exercise and the significance of its
outcome to the Unions ongoing campaign to achieve limits to
teachers working hours, to eliminate excessive workload and to move
towards a new contract for teachers.
Yours sincerely

Dear Colleague
TEACHER WORKLOAD SURVEY
PriceWaterhouseCoopers has been
commissioned by the Government, with the agreement of the teachers
organisations, to conduct a survey of teachers workload. The intention is
that the survey will be conducted in up to 100 schools covering all sectors and
types.
Your school has agreed to take part in
the survey, which will consist of interviews with teachers by PWC researchers.
It is important that sufficient time is set aside by your headteacher for these
interviews.
Members being interviewed by PWC
researchers need to describe in full all the demands made on them by the school
and the impact of these demands on their professional and personal lives so
that PriceWaterhouseCoopers is clear about the true extent of teachers
workload.
The National Union of Teachers has
played a critical role in securing government agreement to the review of
workload. The survey will feed vital information into the review which itself
will lead to progress being made on cutting current workload demands on
teachers and an agreement on a new contract for teachers.
Any queries concerning the visit by
PWC into your school should be directed to John Bangs, Assistant Secretary,
Education & Equal Opportunities, at the address below or by telephone on
0207 388 6191.
Your co-operation is greatly valued
and appreciated.
With best wishes.
Yours sincerely
DOUG McAVOY
General Secretary
